travis will recite "once upon a dream" Rebecca will counterpoint with
"in the factory” The beat starts along with the bass hypnotic dance sound
like the gift by the velvets
                  1. ONCE UPON A DREAM FACTORY- by (Sid Yiddish /ONO/STATIC SWAMP)
P Michael - beats and bass // Jessie and Dawei garage guitars //
Static Swamp electronics         all other sounds fade in and out
trance beat      travis hits the gong to end
                  =ONCE UPON A DREAM FACTORY
Once upon a dream ago      There is movement in my motion      Drowning in
perilous streams I have faced when my world seemed useless and slow
I knew something was different, as I felt myself cooing inside
Still I had This feeling I hadn't felt in years and so it began the greatest revolution
                  Forbidden harmony is so repetitive.
There is movement in my motion … A most Harmonious song shrieked
The days of the anti-hero have long since strayed And I haven’t forgotten
what it was like to overcome feeling alone      But you made sure that I wouldn’t
end up like that.      You hang your head low; you knew I had to go
                  Once upon a dream ago
                  =FACTORY
In the factory Waiting Thin walls of glass and cement The clock of conformity
The faded chipped floor, Listening to the fan blowing out hot stale air Walking back
through the old limping factory Listening to Allen Ginsberg with much antiquity
Wearing Italian glasses Hot stale air      The witnesses who never existed or the point-
Counterpoint texture lectures twisted around the Tongues and teeth of fear of
consequence that lies Waiting in the dark, ready to pounce      Pointed fingers,
yelled & screamed & reamed for tyrants No windows inside the factory
The outside world, Gossips and conversations who feel like prison
Bell rings and it rings again to the great battered machines and worn out tables and
desks that were bought second-hand.      I am continents apart I think drifting off to
that time in ’98 smoke-stacked an entire nation      I pointed out fact from friction,
although fiction was not far from their truths…..

                  2. PUNKS // P Michael - beats and bass // Jessie Drums // Dawei garage guitars
Rebecca Keyboard // Static swamp electronics Starts with // travis samples and voice
for the 1st verse then all start in the 2nd

Exhibition Title:          travis        @ NEW CAPITAL PROJECTS

Performing ALBINO     at the Closing of
                                  Kandis Williams's "New Catalogue" Exhibition.

"Kandis Williams produces large-scale black and white collages that track a deeply
personal on-going exploration of racial-nationalism, authority, eroticism, magic and
violence. For her show as New Capital's first artist in residence, Williams takes the
recent Tanzanian folk conviction that the arms and legs of albinos can be used in
magic potions, and weaves copies of a documentary photograph of a severed
Tanzanian albino arm into intricate and hypnotic lattice structures.

Using collage as a deliberately hideous metaphor for violence, these repetitive and
idiosyncratic nets, formed from specific incidents of sociological chaos, are set against
monochromatic gradients, suggestive of deep space and the occurrence of these
incidents over time, compounding the horror and fascination with both physical and
ideological difference. Williams implicates both herself and the audience in the
intoxication of commodity - fetishism, dramatizing the mind's struggle for truth in
                 moral judgment.

Kandis Williams was raised in Baltimore. She received her BFA from Cooper Union
and is currently based in Berlin."

                QUOTE
This series of three gallery conversations propose that we look at Mark Bradford's work
in relation to different social and cultural contexts. Led by a guest presenter and museum
staff, at each, we ask: What the nature of this scene? What record of it do we see in
Bradford's art? Why does it matter to his work and to culture now?

                With Joe Bryl, acclaimed DJ, music programmer and former Sonotheque owner;
Travis, multidisciplinary artist and lead member of the boundary-crossing music
                and performance group ONO; and

                AUGUST 13:
                ONO                 Stalwart psychedelic art rockers
ONO have been a fixture in the Chicago underground
                for almost three decades.
Incorporating spoken word and performance art elements
into their aggressively strange noise, ONO's live act is
dynamic and decidedly out of left-field.

THE TECHNITRONIC WIDOWMAKERS DRAG ON (travis/ONO)
Black, therewithal without moonbeam gazed I
Upon some blazing Countenance set free
Entranced here held full high a cashmere sky
Unstirred, invoked. Before her there a tree
Sprang forth. Old Age bemoaned (in bloom)
Her fruit: Truth: Sudden shadowplay in dream
No more! Forlorn? I know not, only doom
That veils compel Nirvana, graven, gleam
Perchance this Dragon’s vanity, God’s Tongue
Illumined like his father’s sad delight
                A martyred Verse, a ruthless, silv’ry night
Indulged ‘til, limpid, Truth had fast too long
As Vespers eve widows followed here on.
So strong an omen yet; too weak to run.

                ELEPHANT (Jesse Thomas)
Are you my friend? I am an elephant
they keep me in here but not for too long
because these bars are nothing but toothpicks
and this fence is much too small
                Are you my friend?
I am not a part of this
this is the last time I make this senseless walk
these hollow hallways will soon belong to me
I wasn’t meant for you and I will not forget
                I am an Elephant
                Are you my friend?
this is appalling can’t keep pretending I'm getting smaller
                this performance will divide us
suffered silent slings for far too long
                most of them taunt me
                underestimate today is my day
and I am not your property
this sickness creeps and crawls me
I am as human as the worst of you I am an Elephant

                JESUS AND TEQUILA by Minutemen/JoeCarducci
I had a girl                    She loved what she saw
She loved me so good   She made her daddy mad
My woman cried            She's dead to me now
My woman ran off         And I can't deny it
My life - Jesus and tequila I'm satisfied And I can't deny it
I had a job                    It paid me good
I could have my phone [FUN?] And tip the preacher too
My boss yelled               He's dead to me now
My boss kicked me out  And I can't deny it
My life - Jesus and tequila I'm satisfied And I can't deny it
You better listen to me 'Cause I'm gonna tell you, son
Don't give away your love And don't give away your sweat
Because a girl can't know you And a boss can't afford you
Remember Jesus and tequila I'm satisfied And I can't deny it
Remember Jesus and tequila I'm satisfied And I can't deny it

                VEIL © 2011 (Words/travis:Noise/ONO)
Today I wear a veil; I turn away from the prey
The swamp you loved so much retains me
And with the hunt a rancid power play.
Hunger. We never hunted for hunger.
We aim our sights; out the lights
                And then our siblings overstay.
                The dogs are whining.
Forever I will howl from the clay.
Behind my veil I see your face
                Every Decoration Day.

BRITCHES © 2011 by travis

I DON’T WANT NO BOW RIBBONS ON MY BRITCHES.
I stood out FRONT of the Temple proclaiming my victory over the Devil
Preachers Saints & Christians LAUGH at me.
In BACK of the Temple I met an angel of the devil; an agent inside a wheel.
I answered: I DON’T WANT NO BOW RIBBONS ON MY BRITCHES.
     My desires aside I deny my father’s hatred: [My father hates me;
my father has always hated me; in death my father shall forever hate me.]
Embarrass his shame/Embarrass his name. Much as I can I follow. I shadow. I leave me alone!
Plunging into the Light
I DON’T WANT NO BOW RIBBONS ON MY BRITCHES.
I Wave to his Shroud in Vain. He is Wasted in Ash. He is Whining. He is Wind.
He is Torn from Shame.                                I Visit the Grave. I Fall on the Ground.
AMAZING GRACE (Verses 1&3)                          John Newton (1725-1807)
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound                Through many dangers, toils and snares
That saved a wretch like me.                               I have already come;
I once was lost but now I'm found                     'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
Was blind, but now I see.                                   And Grace will lead me home.

ONO:          P.Michael Grego / Rebecca Pavlatos / Jesse Thomas /
DaWei Wang / MiMi Wallman / travis

                Herewith, my modest proposal:
                 = = = = = = = ONO     //DANGER//     PREMISE: Desire LEADS TO Assumption.
No discernible light or light source. Darkness. Animal sounds. White space.
Two queen sized white sheets (or plastic, but preferably sheets for projections and
dismembering) slash the diegesis at odd angles. Mysterious stillness permeates a
space thick with undercurrents slowly rising from mournful gospel bass guitar and
droning, foreboding organ. Irregular flashes of light (w/images of Wild Dogs or other
animals in the wild?) and roll of thunder. Camera pans space, but in snatches/flashbacks.
Shadowy outlines of ONO members. MiMi (demure as if she is a child/bride OR Costumed!)
is positioned in a child’s chair, but beckons the viewer by “reaching out.”
(Here: Temperamental Lighting) MiMi sings: “Apple in the Tree…” [While I’m here /
I’m reaching out /About to touch / To love too much / A hand on branch / One red desire /
A fire carte blanche / A heart on fire]. ^^^ Before Mimi’s final phrase ends, ONO intro to
“Berlin Cowboy” is well underway, INTERFERING (Funhouse/Change lighting) muddying the
accompaniment to “Apple in the Tree.” ONO voices overlay/overlap MiMi as ONO speak phrases
from “I Am An Elephant” Repeated/Injected (Homonculus). Build into “Berlin Cowboy”
at first utterly disjointed and broken/out of tune, then: [“Radio Hobo Wild Coyote /
16 stallions a wild coyote / Berlin cowboy got a blood reaction / You better sell these uniforms
join a freedom faction (Repeat) / (CHANGE) / And she waits for the doctor / Sally saves all
her favours for the doctor / She’s a radio hobo wild coyote / 16 stallions a wild coyote /
Sally left home gone a bought herself a pony / 16 stallions a wild coyote / Berlin cowboy
better take heed / She tans the cowhide & she takes the lead / Berlin town got a
blood reaction / you better sell these uniforms / join a freedom faction / (CHANGE) /
And she waits for the doctor / Sally saves all her favours for the doctor / She’s a radio hobo
wild coyote (Repeat)”] ^^^ After the second change, guitars DUEL and MiMi destroys all
remaining rhythmic patterns as she SCREECHES AND HOWLS//UNMUSICALLY (while pointing
surveillance lamps into the eye of the camera/viewer): [While I’m here / I’m reaching out /
About to touch / To love too much / A hand on branch / One red desire / A fire carte blanche /
A heart on fire]. VOICES: “I AM AN ELEPHANT! I AM AN ELEPHANT!” ^^^ P.Michael bass leads
Jesse guitar to control the DISorder by imposing one final INTERFERENCE (Funhouse):
DANGER! Big Intro To DANGER! MiMi is out front! Wild Dogs are Howling!/DaWei to the fore!
travis is in the rear of the White Box, changed into all-white, and climbs a ladder to deliver:
DANGER: [“I was up there with the stone in my eye / I turned to you and there was only the
Moon and the Sky / Come here Eagle Boy / Don’t tell me you love NoNoNo / You have the
schemes but I have the numbers / And the Demon in the middle of the firmament /
Come here Eagle Boy; Come Here! / You have the schemes but I have the numbers /
and the Demon in the middle of the firmament.”] Danger provides a reasonable opportunity
for our director’s audio/video thematic overlays/juxtapositions, a good degree of
Assumption and no small hint of Apocalypse! /travis

HAPPY THANKSGIVING  &  MOTHER'S FUNERAL

Dear +++: Happy Thanksgiving. I am very happy to hear from you. I think of you often.
Mother is dead.
Here’s the story of Saturday 20NOV10.
Friday 1700 Southwest flight Chgo MDW to Cleveland. Delayed two hours. Finally arrive CLE.
Shuttled to CLE auto rental. Collected Alamo rental car. My preferred auto was gone.
Upgraded to a gigantic black 2010 Chevy Impala w/Massachusetts license plates.
Drove 1.3 hours to Akron, OH. Checked into Red Roof Inn (w/room for four) at 0230.
Wake-up call 0830. Up at 0800. Drive to Templeton Ministries COGIC, 994 Swartz Rd.,
for Mother’s funeral.
That was fun.
Friends and family from MS, OH and MI. Lots of singing, dancing, food/repast, etc.
To my enduring surprise, my family did not throw themselves into the casket.
They did not faint and fall about. They did not require nurses. And there lay Mother’s corpse,
exquisite make-up beneath a bed of highly fragrant flowers (The Graceful Tribute Casket Spray,
Colonial Florist #TF201-1). Deep purple roses, and endless other flora, fell gracefully about the
New Point Saturn White/Pink 20 gauge metal casket. Perfect hair. Pearls perfect in her pierced ears.
Perfect airbrush blush. Full-length, off-white evening dress with matching pumps!
Actually, quite an ordinary affair. Then came the big fun. The three-block processional snaked the
full breadth of Akron into downtown and busy West Market Street, led by Sheriff escort’s flashing lights!
matching Cadillac hearse and limousines. I drove the last car in the procession, as it was very impressive
to see the crawl up and down Akron’s very steep, hilly terrain and summer-perfect roadways.
It was a perfect day; I could have left my black leathers at home in Chgo.
^^^ Inside the spectacular landscape of beautiful Glendale Cemetery, one slithers through a cavernous
maze of 50ft-100ft hillsides, cliffs, ravines, etc., covered with Gothic Chapel, Neo-Gothic and Renaissance
facades and endless Romanesque-covered-in-vines. It is on the National Register.
“The Guardian of Akron’s Heritage Since 1839.” Then, there it is! Mother ordered a curious crypt/vault,
huge and highly glazed in silver, sitting in Section 42 Lot 3, in the garden by the side of the road.
Pallbearers deliver the casket to a waiting pedestal. Tented Ceremony; again surprisingly uneventful.
No one threw themselves into the casket or into the grave! I have a great conversation with the pastor
about “all this hardware to rot in the ground.” Then, everyone leaves the sylvan landscape to the blaring
of my niece’s bass booming from the butt of her truck: Just a hint of New Orleans.
They return to repast and party at Templeton. I grow old in Glendale graveyard.
A small army of gravediggers descend upon the scene. We chat. The huge, silver 12 gauge Clark Steel Vault
is raised into the air by a heavy, black spidery trucklike device. It is placed over the casket and pedestal.
Four locks click the parts securely together, then the heavy burden is lifted into the air and moved away
from the grave. Wooden supports, turf, etc., are removed from grave site, and the giant silver vault
returns and is lowered into the ground: Fewer than four inches from the foot of the next vault;
like condominiums. Then, a bright, freshly-washed, poppy-red Tonka Toy Dump Truck arrives with soil.
It is beautiful, heavy, the same length as the grave. Perfectly positioned, it arches its back and dumps its load,
perfectly planting Mother’s mortal remains in the dirt.
I sniff the purple roses and drive 1.3 hours back to Alamo; return the auto; shuttle to CLE;
fly Southwest to MDW; arrive home at 1945; pack my bags and drive an hour to Mortville
haul my equipment up three flights of stairs; and I am onstage at 2100 performing with ONO
(P.Michael, Rebecca, MiMi, Jesse, Dawei and me).
You may view our Saturday show online at my FaceBook page.

all of our functions are 'ability to pay', we meet with as many politicians as we can to educate
them, and the list goes on and on.' AVER also continues to closely monitor efforts to end the
               government's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy affecting the estimated 65,000 U.S. LGBT
military personnel. 'Ending the DADT is our raison d'etre,' Darby has said, 'and we won't be
satisfied until we reach our goal.'

                                   NOTES:
Half the soundtrack will be diegetic: Traditional, pre-recorded Carnaval sounds,
heavily amplified w/Afro beats. I also plan to look, performatively, at deep, dark American or
Latin Blues as an OVERLAY; CARNAVAL provides Escape as well as Transfiguration.
^^^At CARNAVAL, Masters and Slaves switch places. (Costumed rich women singing the
Blues (in a DIFFERENT language)). I want a very NOISY installation of lights, sounds and
                psychological acting out!

                >>>>> CARNAVAL in Rio is when the people (living in the favela's) reclaim their city and
they can become anything they want, another sex, the king/queen, have wealth, imagine
a new self & recharge their sense of being for the next year.

                  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=116176125093545

FROM ARVO ZYLO:   The Delirious Insomniac Freeform Radio Show has haunted the airwaves
of WLUW into the wee hours of dreary Monday Nights for nearly 3 years. Taking the concept of Freeform
and directing it more into the realms of an art form, host Arvo Fingers uses his lengthy experience as a
sleepless madman to wield surrealistic songs and sounds into a slithering swath for 4 hours a week.
He's clandestinely guested overnight many tim...es at WZRD-Chicago, cohosted a soul radio show with
Eric Lab Rat, booked numbers of otherworldly bands, and sustained long stints of freeform band/DJ nights
at daring bars or clubs, often covering two floors of activity. Presently, "Delirious Insomniac" is now
syndicated on RadioKL.Hr in Croatia, with regular international guest contributions from foreign music
enthusiasts. Arvo also writes music-oriented articles as well as making music alongside some of Chicago's
experimental luminaries. For this 3rd Anniversary event, challenging the freeform medium will extend into
the physical/visual realm. You might be alarmed, but you won't be disappointed.

Hi Jesse, Andy and I have been receiving lots of calls from Ken Vandermark fans who are driving
from far distances and who are arriving early, etc. We're nervous about capacity (we didn't think
our small capacity of 60 would be an issue) and about properly showcasing both Ono and
Ken Vandermark. Your fans might be eclipsed by the Vandermark fans and vice-versa and
we may have to turn people away, which we've never had to do. We've decided the best
solution is to reschedule Ono so that both bands are properly showcased. Next Friday,
September 10, is open and we are looking for an act. Would you guys be able to play
that night? We really don't have a choice for tomorrow other than to cancel Ono.
But we would like for you guys to play as soon as possible. Please let me know as soon
as you can. Thanks, and I'm very sorry for the last minute notice. Rani

Just checked email this morning, looks like the show's off.

Dear ONO FANS:      ONO FOR KEN VANDERMARK SHOW CANCELLED.
I returned from performing at Daley Plaza, practiced, packed equipment and checked email before leaving home
for TRANSISTOR. This just in from TRANSISTOR: ===The ONO for Ken Vandermark show is CANCELLED.
TRANSISTOR owners are concerned because of the number of telephone calls they have received, and the fact
that the venue capacity is 60! I just received this news moments ago, and I apologize for the late note.
TRANSISTOR promises to reschedule at ONO's earliest convenience. Stay tuned.

04SEP10:     [Ken Vandermark's FaceBook page, updated 03SEP10, is quoted below]
9/3/2010:     QUOTE     Ken Vandermark ‎9/3: Small turnout for the Transistor show; the organizers decided to ask
Ono to move their performance to another date because they were concerned that the turnout was going
to be too large for the room. This seems to have confused things for the listeners and, ironically,
the opposite kind of attendence occured. The ......folks that showed were very appreciative and I was happy
with the way the music went: played the Ayler and McPhee pieces, "(brullt)," and the Rothko template from
"Furniture Music," the other four performances were open improvisations. I've been asked to do a solo set
in Oslo during the Brotzmann Chicago Tentet residency at the end of October, the rehearsal and
performance for the Transistor gig will be preparation for that concert....     UNQUOTE

This event will also feature longtime Chicago way-out unit ONO,
recently resurrected in what is now their nearly 30-year career,
whose work –verifiable through early 80s releases and numerous
performances archived on the internet— keeps re-setting the bar
for total mind-bending performative fuckery.

PO' LAZARUS/Traditional
High Sheriff, he told the deputy, he says, "Go out and bring me Lazarus."
High Sheriff, he told the deputy, he says, "Go out and bring me Lazarus. Bring him dead or alive,
Wo, Lawdy, bring him dead or alive." Oh, the deputy begin to wonder, where in the world he could
find him… "Well I don't know, Wo, Lawdy, I just don't know." Oh, they found poor Lazarus
way out between two mountains… And they blowed him down, Lawd, Lawd, and they blowed him
down. Old Lazarus told the deputy he had never been arrested… By no one man, Wo, Lawdy,
by no one man. So they shot poor Lazarus, shot him with a great big number… Number forty-five,
Wo, Lawdy, number forty-five. And they taken poor Lazarus and they laid him on the commissary
counter… and they walked away, Wo, Lawdy, and they walked away. Lazarus told the deputy,
"Please gimme a cool drink of water… Just before I die, Wo, Lawdy, just before I die."
Lazarus' sister run and told her mother… "Poor Lazarus is dead, Wo, Lawdy, poor Lazarus is dead."
Lazarus' mother, she laid down her sewing… She begin to cry, Wo, Lawdy, she begin to cry.
Lazarus' mother, she come a-screaming and a-crying… "That's my only son, Wo, Lawdy, that's
my only son." Lazarus' father, he sure was hard-hearted… Didn't say a word, Wo, Lawdy,
didn't say a word. Lazarus' sister, she couldn't go to the funeral… Didn't have no shoes,
Wo, Lawdy, didn't have no shoes. Cap'n, did you hear about - all your men gonna leave you?…

Every time I
See you naked I
Offer my death bed but
You won't take it
Strange, my flower bed cannot hold you.
In my prime I
Tried to burn away my
Winter weeds but I
Breed and then I decay
Strange, my flower bed cannot hold you.
Strange, some ghostly deed exposed my fangs
And all my lilies turn to seed
Strange, my flower bed cannot hold you.
