This Podcast is a live performance recorded in the studio of WHPK radio, however this is NOT the broadcast version, but a live recording captured in the studio by Jesse Thomas, and it is UNCUT featuring a tune-up, sound-check, a bit of "Red House", and finally "Ashley Knight" and "X-Ray".
About our host: ONO is an Industrial/Avant-Gospel band from Chicago IL. founded in 1980. ONO played all over the Chicago and parts of the Midwest till the mid 80's. The Band rehearsed weekly in a finished basement on the South Side near the affluent "PILL HILL" area. ONO shared the space with End Result at their inception July 1980 till they moved to the Mercy Mission. First Show - at the Original EXIT on Wells- On the bill were Special Affect (Frankie Fun & Al Jorgenson) and Naked Raygun (Jeff and Mark-O -Santiago -Camillo and Jim). ONO went on well after midnight after a late Raygun set. Line UP was P. Michael, travis and Mark the audience consisted of members from the 2 other bands and Debra Cadaver Original Line Up: 1980 Hallene Kathy Brooks-Vocals,Percussion and Recitations, travis-Vocals- Dobro/Steel guitar, Bass, Percussion and Keyboards Mark Berrend-Vocals and Guitar P. Salute to LGBT Veterans
The City of Chicago’s annual Salute to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Veterans,
“With Liberty and Justice for All,” will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, August 5 in Daley Plaza
at Washington and Dearborn streets. The program will last one hour.
The salute is hosted by the Chicago Commission on Human Relations’ Advisory Councils on
Veterans Affairs (ACVA) and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues (ACLGBTI)
and the Chicago chapter of the American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER).
“The American Veterans for Equal Rights has been working for the recognition of Chicago’s
LGBT veterans for many years,” said Jim Darby, President of the Chicago chapter of AVER
and Secretary of ACVA. “Thanks to the efforts of Dana Starks, Chairman and Commissioner
of the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, Will Schmutz, Director of ACVA, and
Bill Greaves, Director of ACLGBTI, this seventh annual salute will be held on August 5.”
Mayor Richard M. Daley will issue a proclamation in support of the Salute.
U.S. Representative Mike Quigley has been invited to speak. Congressman Quigley recently
issued a statement calling for an end to the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.
Quigley will be joined on stage by a number of LGBT veterans and elected officials.
We thank all Chicagoland veterans for continuing to support their country.
This Salute is an historic event in the LGBT veterans’ movement. We hope that everyone will
turn out in force to support this event:

A PRIDE Art Show
Prairie Avenue Gallery hosts ‘Pride’ show
CHICAGO — Chicago’s Prairie Avenue Gallery will host a Pride Show in honor of
gay pride month in Chicago. The opening reception will be Sunday, June 7,
noon-4 p.m., with food, music and mingling with the artists. The gallery is housed
in the Prairie Avenue Historic District, in the Keith House, one of the few remaining
historic homes along Prairie Avenue. The building, located at 1900 S. Prairie Avenue,
is also the former home of Woman Made Gallery.
The Prairie Avenue Gallery was founded in the mid-1980s by Joy Darrow, a photojournalist
who was a managing editor of the Chicago Defender. Darrow died in 1996, and her
daughters, Marcy and Tracy Baim, re-opened the gallery in May of this year with a show
featuring freshmen students at the School of the Art Institute.
The Prairie Avenue Gallery was known for ground-breaking shows, including what is
believed the first AIDS art show in the mid 1980s, a showcase of Black photojournalists,
and shows featuring emerging Chicago photographers, sculptors and painters.
The new Prairie Avenue Gallery will have weekend hours. During the week the gallery
will offer classes and studio space for photographers and artists.
Artists in the Pride Show are: Photographers Rick Aguilar, Steve Becker, Renee Brown,
Kat Fitzgerald, Lisa Howe-Ebright and Betty Lark Ross. The painters and illustrators are
Jorjet Harper, Juarez Hawkins, Carol James, David Johnson, Andrea Kaspryk, Mary King,
Riva Lehrer, Otis Richardson, Erik R.Sosa and Travis. Carmen Noriega will display her
stained glass works.
The Pride Show is in honor of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Pride Month and
will be up through June and July. The hours are: Sunday, June 7, Noon-4 p.m. opening;
Sat., June 13, noon-3 p.m.; Sat., June 20, noon-3 p.m.; Sunday, June 21, noon-3 p.m.;
Closed pride weekend (June 27-28); and open every Saturday and Sunday in July, noon-3 p.m.

We stopped because she (without my knowledge) contacted and accepted more artists than we could fit at the Smart Museum. I really want to apologize
for this, it was very much our fault for not being more organized and failing to communicating with each other as an organization. I also think our organization
should have created deadlines to avoid confusion. The Smart doesn't have the event on their website because it is a student-run event, not their event, and

event: Arte Popular is a one-night exhibition on April 9, 2009 (exact time TBA). It will take place at the University of Chicago's Smart Museum and is hosted by
the student-run organization, MEChA. Arte Popular is part of a week long celebration
of the lives and work of Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez, but mostly meant
to address current social and political problems in the US, including those of labor, education, poverty, and immigrants rights. Arte Popular is meant celebrate artists
who incorporate cultural, political or social issues in their work. I think we are asking for two paintings from each artist, who contacts us. I will let you know as
